The second book in Dorothy L Sayers Lord Peter Wimsey series - a must-listen for fans of Agatha Christie's Poirot and Margery Allingham's Campion Mysteries.

The Duke of Denver, accused of murder, stands trial for his life in the House of Lords.

Naturally, his brother Lord Peter Wimsey is investigating the crime - this is a family affair. The murder took place at the duke's shooting lodge and Lord Peter's sister was engaged to marry the dead man.

But why does the duke refuse to co-operate with the investigation? Can he really be guilty, or is he covering up for someone?

Robert Bathurst did an excellent job of bringing this classic whodunnit to life - a most enjoyable listen.

Beautifully read

The narrator did a great job with the accents and the difference voices - so many of them make Lord Peter’s voice sound like a pantomime dame.

At last, a good narrator for this series

Fantastic to finally have good recordings of these brilliant books. Fingers crossed that RB records them all, including the short stories.

So pleased!

Outstanding narration. So often they lose it on the French but he did very well with that and pretty well with the Yorkshire too. Great story. Obviously you want to know the ending but really you're there for the views along the way. Such well written books. Just a joy to listen to. I especially enjoyed the court room scenes. 5 stars from me.

Possibly my favourite one yet

The reader coped well with the various accents and languages in this story. The story is a fine one , well written and in this case well executed. I heartily recommend it.

Lovely reading!
