About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Jenny Shephard is twelve years old and missing.

Her teacher, Sarah Finch, knows better than most that the chances of finding her alive are diminishing every day.

As a little girl Sarah's older brother went out to play and never come home. The strain of not knowing what happened to him tore her family apart.

When Sarah finds Jenny's body, beaten and abandoned in the woods near her home, she is drawn into the heart of the investigation and a media storm.

Her presence at the scene arouses suspicions. But it is not just the police that are watching her...

Jane Casey's police procedurals go from strength to strength!

Like so many mention, the narrator was absolutely dreadful at doing any other character’s voices other than her own - and even that was tough to listen to. The story was good enough but I really think this book should be re-recorded with a different narrator to give the story the credit it’s due.

I completed this out of loyalty to the author despite the awful narrator 😣

The narrator’s voice and characters are so distracting and cringy. It set raw fits from the writing. I’m half way through and will persevere as I usually love the author.

Irritating narrator

Really enjoyed the plot and the characters, an enthralling listen, not sure about the narrator, I got more used to her as the story went on.

Really good story

Quite a slow burn and not as good as some of Jane Casey’s other stories, but the thing that really ruined it for me was the narrator.

Ridiculous accents had me thinking it was set in the 1940s. It spoiled what should have been a harrowing storyline as it felt like the Famous Five Do Murder.

Left several unanswered questions too.

Awful narration spoils it

I love Jane Casey books normally, but the narrator had me wanting to stop listening almost from the start. I found it difficult to engage with the book. Next time I see this narrator’s name I’ll just ignore the book even if it is by Jane Casey

Narrator very annoying
