Can a good girl find love in a thug? For Lei Fifer, that’s the hundred-thousand-dollar question. When Lei, an introverted homebody, invites her girls over for a spa day, she isn’t expecting their conversation to shift to men in prison. As an advocate for rehabilitated people receiving the love, companionship, and support those who haven’t committed crimes receive, Lei doesn’t hesitate to put her money where her mouth is and bet that she can find a good friend or great love with someone through the pen pal program her father created.

As confident as Lei is, there are a few conflicts that can arise, the first of which being her career as a defense attorney. Still, Lei sets out to find her friend and win the bet, but when she stumbles across Londen’s profile… she quickly realizes there might be a chance for her bruised heart to find love too.

Londen Graham has never allowed anything to stop him from having his way—and that includes being in prison. Nearing the end of his sentence, Londen already knows exactly how he’s going to live this second phase of his life. What he doesn’t expect is to fall in love with a woman through the pen pal program. A woman who just so happens to be connected to his past in a way that can ruin their friendship and chance to have love in the future.

What starts out as fun and friendship quickly becomes more for Lei when Londen spoils her from behind bars in a way that no free man ever has. With a secret that can destroy not just their budding romance but Lei’s relationship with her family, Londen sets out to make things right as soon as he’s free. Will he be able to prove he’s still the man who secured her heart with his words, or will all they share be memories and his love letters from Memphis?

Love Letters from Memphis was just okay for me. The narration didn’t really do it any favours—it felt flat, and that, paired with the pacing and plot, made it hard to stay engaged.

I did like that the characters built trust from the beginning and had a solid relationship. There was no unnecessary meddling or forced drama between them, which was refreshing. But the drama in the FMC’s life was a lot, and the way the story jumped forward 10 years in the first few chapters felt rushed. Then the pace suddenly slowed way down, which made the flow feel off.

It was interesting how connected the FMC and MMC’s lives were, but overall, the book didn’t leave much of a lasting impression. I’m honestly struggling to remember most of it. It wasn’t bad—just not memorable.

Solid Characters, But a Tough Listen

Nice read, good to read black wealth flowing. Sad to see that part of that wealth was rooted in illegal activities, showing the gap black people need to close still, because there is no such thing as ‘general wealth’ which is squeaky clean (for nobody, no matter the family or color). Happy that Leh found her people, who love and put her first. She deserves that.

Leh deserved the happy end/beginning

Absolutely loved this one!

I fell in love with Lei and London! Their connection, the way their relationship developed, and the love they found in each other had me completely invested in their story.

Lei was such a wonderful character. I loved her resilience, strength, and courage, and the way she stood firm in her beliefs while still allowing herself to be vulnerable enough to open her heart to love. She was strong without losing her softness, and I really admired that about her.

And London? What a man! His honesty, charm, and caring nature made him the perfect pairing for Lei. I loved how he made her feel cherished and valued, proving that love can reach you in the most unexpected places. The two of them together were just chef’s kiss!

The author did such a wonderful job bringing these characters to life and creating a love story that pulled me in and made me care about them. I was completely invested in their journey, and I wasn’t ready to let them go when it ended.

Honestly, I could listen to this book all over again! That’s how much I loved it. If you enjoy romance with strong, resilient characters, a swoon-worthy love interest, and a relationship that captures your heart, I’d definitely recommend giving this one a read (or listen!).

A definite favourite for me!
