About this listen

Min and his dad—on the road!

Setting out into exile is never much fun, but Minalan wants to publicly comply with Prince Tavard's order to leave Sevendor for three years to spare his home any retribution. Instead of using magic to transport himself to his new lands, Minalan decides to leave cross-country in a wagon with his father.

Down the Bontal River, Min and his dad make a stop at Robinwing, get snowed in at Barrowbell, and enjoy a few days as guests of Baron Astyral. Along the way, Minalan comes to terms with many things in his life. With his father's advice and some introspection, he prepares for the great challenge ahead in distant Vanador.

No one knows what the future holds, but as the stakes for Callidore grow higher and weigh more heavily on Minalan's shoulders, it might be possible for Min to find inspiration on the Road to Vanador!

I really liked this as we got a greater understanding of some overlooked characters. I like Gareth he is highly capable and not a warrior. Thats rare in a fantasy book.

My favourite story was Coswallon the Fox as he is one of my favourite characters and its very funny and I think the series needs some humour in it from time to time. This story tied up some loose ends and Landrik was the ideal counter to the Fox. Landrik is a very interesting character given his former job.

I hope we get more stories involving the Fox. I loved the line "Ishi's bruised knees' the divine related lines tend to be entertaining.

The story involving Min and his dad is great as we get a bit of everything a non mage point of view, there is humour and some touching moments. It was a clever way to deal with the exile and sets up the next story ark.

The narrator as always did a fantastic job and deserves thanks as does the author. I look forward to the next book and selection of short stories. It's a pity John Lee did not voice the shadow mage books.

A very enjoyable set of stories

Not much action in this collection of short stories but plenty of character development. Thoroughly enjoyable tales.

If you like the Spielzimmer series which I would guess once you made it beyond book 10 then this is a must listen. It adds a lot of background information and depth to a du of characters. And it simply is a joyful experience to listen to.

Additional depth to the fantastic spellmonger series
