About this listen

When Juno Browne returns to the picturesque Dartmoor town of Ashburton after a brief holiday, she’s relieved to find that no one has been murdered while she was away. Though uncharitable friends suggest the quiet was simply due to her absence. Just as she’s settling back into her routine at the antiques shop and as domestic helper and dog walker, the brutal killing of local journalist Sandy Thomas shocks the town.

When it becomes clear that' one of Juno’s friends has managed to catch the killing on camera, Juno is swept up into a fresh murder inquiry. What was Sandy really investigating on the night she was killed? With a spate of dog kidnappings to contend with as well, the Devon countryside never felt less tranquil, and inevitably means Juno’s amateur sleuthing skills will be called upon once again...

I have very much enjoyed the Devon mystery series, but this is the fourth narrator and her voice is just too old. Juno is supposed to be in her mid to late 20s and this reader sounds more like her 60s or even older. It's frustrating enough when there's a new person reading a series every couple of books, but even more so if the voice of the protagonist is just wrong. If it wasn't for the enjoyable story line and the writer's way with words, I wouldn't have carried on with this one. I hope book 7 is good because it's the same narrator again 😕

Why change the narrator AGAIN?!

Such a shames that the narrator lets this book down so much. I agree with other reviews that the narration sounds like an old person and just jars somewhat. Such a shame

The narrator is just not as good

Jilly bond is not good at reading she sounds like a little old lady telling a story when knitting she would not have the energy to get into the scrapes Juno gets into

Don’t like the new narrator

I enjoy the stories and the performance is good - however they main protagonists is meant to be early 30s and it’s clearly read by someone who is much older and sounds more like Miss Marple than a 30 year old sleuth. Just jars a little

Good Books but wrong narrator
