About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

I am now in a place where I've learned to have good vibes, to be true to myself, but it hasn't always been this way. This is not a traditional memoir, and it's not a self-help book either. It's a series of lessons learned from a life lived, many of which I've only realised in retrospect—after all, it is only through living that we can learn and grow.

I'm still learning, still a journeyman, with much to still absorb; still making mistakes, still striving. But I feel privileged now—after a lot of interesting twists and turns along the way—to share my journey with you.

This is my story of how I have learned to tune back in and rediscover my good vibes.

From DJ gigs in Southampton nightclubs to chart-topping global fame, Craig David found overnight success as a teenager. With no place for feelings of insecurity, he learned to push them down, building a reputation as the man who always had a smile on his face.

Further down the line, things began to unravel. All the negative feelings Craig had been ignoring rose to the surface. He had to change his thinking.

In Craig's much-anticipated first book—part-memoir, part self-help—he shares his journey of reinvention, self-love and acceptance, and the lessons he's learned along the way.

Dear Craig,

Thank you for recording this beautiful audiobook. I’ve listened to it completely and have just finished it.

It’s not easy to be vulnerable. It’s something I’ve always struggled with but I hope with your story in mind, I’ll go on to improve my situation and finally find my vibes. This has not been the case the past ten years. I’ve gone from one workplace to another, only to discover that my excitement, although present at first, quickly waned and all that was left was depression coupled with the feeling of guilt and shame.

Maybe one day I’ll find the right place for me. A place where what I’m doing ignites me, lights me up, makes me want to get up from my bed every morning. You’ve been lucky to have found it early on in your life. But you’ve gone through a lot of struggle, outer and inner, to make your journey a blast, and I hope I can, too.

You’re a very unique person, not just in voice but in heart and spirit as well.

Yours,
Toré

What a gorgeous book. I just finished it, and I am going to re-listen to it again now as I don’t want to stop listening! Firstly, I read a lot of books by spiritual leaders who are meant to be kind, but I can’t remember the last time I read a book by someone so kind and self-aware. Such an engaging book, too. I am not interested in music but Craig made it interesting. Beautifully written with vivid descriptions, you can really picture yourself being there with him as he describes each place/situation. Here’s a note to Craig if you read this: I was 12 when born to do it came out and I listened to it on repeat over and over for years. I met my husband at a New Year’s Eve party where the reason we connected was because we both knew every lyric to 7 Days. I had a really difficult pregnancy and the only thing that got me through showering every few days (I had such little energy) was putting Born to do it in the background to soothe me and keep me grounded. I am so glad you wrote this book as I learnt so much from it and I really hope you write more as you grow and develop so we can all benefit from your open-hearted wisdom. I wish you love and happiness ❤️

Absolute must read & listen for anyone interested in self-development

This is an interesting read about a normal everyday lad with an incredible musical talent, whose rise to fame (and fortune) at an early age overwhelmed him. This is a common theme with child stars, but unlike many who end up screwed up, tanked up, and often meet an early demise, David looks inwardly, faces and confronts his issues, and finds the tools to help with his low self esteem. Many will resonate with him, and his honest descriptions of his journey into mindfulness was truly inspiring.

I’ll fill you in…
