A riveting account of the lives and epic battles of eight Western defenders against violent Islamic jihad that sheds much-needed light on the enduring conflict with radical Islam

In Defenders of the West, the author of Sword and Scimitar follows up with vivid and dramatic profiles of eight extraordinary warriors—some saints, some sinners—who defended the Christian West against Islamic invasions.

Discover the real Count Dracula, Spain’s El Cid, England’s Richard Lionheart, and many other historical figures whose true and original claim to fame revolved around their defiant stance against jihadist aggression. An instructive and inspiring listen; whereas Sword and Scimitar revolved around decisive battles, Defenders of the West revolves around decisive men.

absolutely amazing, a historical journey. Really makes you rethink what you have been taught, or what people think they know about these historical figures. Both islamic and christian records were used plenty. The reader has a great voice too!

Amazing historical journey.

Succinctly focusing on a handful of heroic figures who saved Europe from being dominated and overrun. A great balance to the terrible bias in history that chooses to self flagellate instead of revealing the truth of the Christian fight back.

incredibly important book from which to view the present.

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. The narrator was exceptionally clear and articulate, with excellent pronunciation throughout. I didn't notice a single mistake in the narration, which made for a very immersive listening experience.

The author tells the stories of eight inspiring defenders of Western Christendom, offering a perspective on the Crusades that challenged many of my preconceptions. I was introduced to remarkable historical figures I had never heard of before, including John Hunyadi, Skanderbeg, and El Cid, as well as the real Vlad Dracul, who stood firmly against the Ottoman Empire in defense of his homeland.

More than just a history book, this was a deeply inspiring listen. It encouraged me to take up my own cross, embrace the responsibilities of biblical masculinity, and seek to honor Christ in my own life. I would highly recommend this audiobook to any Christian—especially men—who wants to learn more about the history of our faith and be inspired by examples of courage, conviction, and steadfastness in the face of evil.

Inspiring, well-narrated, and historically eye-opening

This book truly showed my that as a European I should be thankful to these men who tried so hard to keep europe free even if it meant giving their lives

The brave hero's of Europe

lots of information and some sources to check info. it was interesting, I liked the first and last chapters best as it gave context to our current political problems and how the leftist historiographical viewpoint has radically shaped modern views on the crusades. spoiler their perspective is superficial, narrow minded and reductive.

interesting
