About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Susannah Constantine, our loved style guru and one half of the outrageously popular television programme What Not to Wear, spent her youth entangled in glitz and glamour. Susannah's very first memoir is filled to the brim with scandalous stories, jaw-dropping royal relationships and star-studded encounters from pop stars to the fashion greats. But beneath it all is a woman who is still getting to know herself, even after falling in love at first sight, presenting one of the most monumental television programmes ever and having Princess Margaret as a second mother figure.

Uncertain of her future, unsure of how to cope with her own mother's tragic battle with bipolar disorder and becoming a mother herself, Susannah is on a journey of discovery, and her memoir tells you her greatest loves and lessons, bound together with disarming honesty and beguiling humour.

Having seen Suzannah on the TV and in the society pages for many years I found her autobiography hugely revealing and warm. I loved her « behind the scenes «  stories and her honesty and her own struggles were refreshingly honest.

Open, honest and courageous

The downside of this audible book is that the author - despite her media and public speaking background - does not do her work justice. Her delivery is flat and almost devoid of emotion. Having said that, and ending up reading rather than listening, the work is both amusing and dead honest. If you happen to be of a similar vintage as the author , then it’s also a comforting reminder of all the trends, fashions , people and stories you grew up with

An honest , amusing autobiography

I really enjoyed the first 2/3 of this book. It was interesting, funny and detailed about Susannah's life up to her early thirties. After the chapter on meeting her husband it went somewhat downhill. Susannah barely touches on her wedding or life once married apart from a few anecdotes about friends and a flavour of her husbands character. She says virtually nothing about Trinny or their time working together. I'm sure there is a reason for this but it just seems a bit odd and as if the book lacks substance towards the end.
That's why I only gave it four stars. Overall it was a very enjoyable book.

Witty and entertaining
