I like that this book is written by a new dad himself. When mom gets pregnant, all the focus is on her and the health of the fetus, and we don't really consider that the soon-to-be dad has much to deal with during this time. Simple things such as learning what's included in the baby's APGRM score for example. The new dad brings you through what to expect and how to deal with everything from conception through birth. Narration is easy to listen to as well and the author's sense of humor makes this audiobook more enjoyable than just the facts.

What a fun read this one was. While I am past the dad-to-be stage, a good friend of mine is expecting and this book will provide him a LOT of valuable information and insight into what to expect over the next few months. I enjoyed the humorous way the author presents the topic, not losing sight of the key messages: this is your responsibility too, get involved as much as you can, support your partner and be there for your bundle of joy!

Highly recommend!

A must read for dads to be!

I really enjoy enjoyed listening to this book, even though I am beyond the first time dad stage. I found it very informative and something that I wish I had read before I had first-hand dad experience. It would have prepared me and removed the mystery or questioning about what I should do. It made me want to immediately listen to the next book in this series since I am beyond a first year parent. What was most valuable was that this book covered the 9 month before and 3 month after the birth. The first year is what this book called the 4 trimesters. It provide an excellent game plan for handling that time of shifting change in mindset from I->WE-> to Us focus. Realizing that we are pregnant together. Showing the mother of my child the empathy, caring and embracing responsibility of the new role we are both involved in is a message that struck home. It help me better understand the issues that both parents are experiencing and how to better handle them. Fatherhood is so much more than bringing home a pay check. I would call this book, Dad Training 101. I look forward to listening to the rest of this series with the great expectation that it will be as informative, enjoyable & light-hearted as the first.

Aside from its lighter moments, this book provides advice for expectant and new parents. Guidance on giving early support to your partner is beneficial. This vital advice is delivered with a different degree of care than in other publications. The fatherly abilities that he must acquire are also carefully expressed in a clear, functional language. The repeated calls to strengthen relationships, show empathy, and work together are inspiring. It was beautiful and exciting that postpartum depression was addressed in this audiobook. The narrator played an important role in drawing attention to the most important details.

Very informative

Being a first time dad can be real nerve racking, worrying about a hormonal wife is hard enough and then the feeling of total cluelessness with infants can only exacerbate the problem further. This book really helped me to clear out a lot of my worry and feel confident going into my next stage in life. I would recommend it if like me you're uncertain about what fatherhood really is.
