About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

'There is only one book to a man,' Steinbeck wrote of East of Eden, his most ambitious novel. Set in the rich farmland of the Salinas Valley, California, this powerful, often brutal novel, follows the intertwined destinies of two families - the Trasks and the Hamiltons - whose generations hopelessly re-enact the fall of Adam and Eve and the poisonous rivalry of Cain and Abel. Here Steinbeck created some of his most memorable characters and explored his most enduring themes: the mystery of identity; the inexplicability of love, and the murderous consequences of love's absence.

A truly beautiful and haunting story that creates a believable parable. The narration was underwhelming - particularly when they tried to perform different accents and women's voices.

Haunting Story

What a beautifully told saga. The Oirish accent was terrible but still the descriptive telling of the tale had me mesmerised from start to finish. Left me wanting more of Steinbeck. He’s a genius.

This is one of those books that you miss like a loved one when you finish it. A tale with several strands that was very well read.

Sorry it’s finished

Amazing story, Great narration, I could not put it down. Irish accent quite comical but did not take away from a wonderful performance

Absolutely loved this!

BUT.....A lot of the time it's passable....And the book itself is a masterpiece..
Try to get past the Dick Van Dyke moments...It's worth it.

Narration? When it's bad it's really bad!!
