About this listen

Mark Watson is generally accepted to be alive. And yet he’s died. In fact, he’s died loads of times.

On stage.

It’s embarrassing. Excruciating. But dying on stage isn’t the only death Mark’s suffered. There’s also been the death of his innocence. The death of that absolutely brilliant project that everyone told him was really amazing. And that time he died inside.

In this warm-hearted, hilarious memoir he takes you behind the scenes of a life - and many deaths - in comedy and beyond. From his early years on the circuit, to getting lost in the world of TV, Mark reveals everything: when he died and when he lived. 8 Deaths will show you that it’s not how you die that counts - it’s how you live.

I’m aware of Mark through his plethora of tbh appartenances and stand up. I’m not sure what I was expecting from this book I’ve got a hell of a lot more respect for him after listening to this. Not my typical type of book but can highly recommend.

Actually absolutely fantastic

My only slight negative would be that, as a fan of Mark’s comedy & podcast, menkind, I found the delivery a bit stilted. I guess that comes from reading the ‘script/book’. The content was great. .. horrid mind that I have a did spend far too long thinking about who the ‘big names’ were on the panel games…

A lovely approach to ‘self help’

I didn’t expect to bring any life lessons from this book, I actually just expected some laughs.
And I got some laughs. But also some tears, and some wise words.
For example, please yourself - not others, do things that makes you happy, be kind to yourself!
And…. Never ever enter a survival show!
Have a listen, well spent hours!

Laughs, tears and wise words!

Mark says this isn't a "self help" book, yet i find it hugely helpful, and reassuring to hear that someone as brilliant and successful as Mark also really struggles with the day to day problems we all do.

I've been a fan of Mark for a very long time, and it's difficult to listen to someone you like, describing the terrible things that have happened to them but there is still the usual humour and delivery that I love about him.

To 'feel seen' is massively helpful when dealing with one's own Fiddly Brain, to know I'm not on my own, navigating through each day. It just gives me a little more strength than I thought I had.

X

More helpful than any 'self-help' book.

Such a happy accident to come across this book where a clever and erudite fallible human being looks at their less than perfect life honestly and with humour. It was just what I needed to hear…we all need to hear in order to quieten the seemingly incessant need for everything to be great/happy/successful. I loved it

An uplifting look at all the many ways we can fail
