About this listen

THE MILLION-COPY BESTSELLING PHENOMENON

This is the story of Sam and Sadie. It's not a romance, but it is about love.

When Sam catches sight of Sadie at a crowded train station one morning he is catapulted straight back to childhood, and the hours they spent immersed in playing games.

Their spark is instantly reignited and sets off a creative collaboration that will make them superstars. It is the 90s, and anything is possible.

What comes next is a decades-long tale of friendship and rivalry, fame and art, betrayal and tragedy, perfect worlds and imperfect ones. And, above all, our need to connect: to be loved and to love.

Maybe it’s because I work in the games industry but I found myself wanting to dive deeper into the characters themselves rather than the constant cheesy game dev cliches. The characters are not particularly likeable but I felt they were very unique and interesting, particularly Sam. The ending felt a bit drawn out but the lead up did enough to keep me reading. Ultimately this is quite a sad story and perhaps not quite what I was expecting but it was enjoyable enough!

A good story, gratingly told

At the star, her sibilance (isss) and plosive (puh) sounds were extremely irritating.

But, it improved a lot, and I settled into a wonderfully tender, sweet story of love, regret, and friendship.

Highly recommended. A lovely book.

A game of life.

A wonderful love story for games and gamers. Imaginative and complex but with a simple relationship at its heart. A great read

So much nostalgia for Yesterday

Recommended by a friend and absolutely loved it. Very cleverly written and I adored how it all intertwined

Absolutely loved it

This book really moved me. I sometimes struggle with narrators and often like books despite the narration but with this it somehow felt like I was listening to art.

This moved me but I can't explain exactly why
