About this listen

The Kaiju Preservation Society is John Scalzi's first stand-alone adventure since the conclusion of his New York Times best-selling Interdependency trilogy.

When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food-delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization”. Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on.

What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, massive dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world. They're the universe's largest and most dangerous panda, and they're in trouble.

It's not just the Kaiju Preservation Society who's found their way to the alternate world. Others have, too. And their carelessness could cause millions back on our Earth to die.

Wasn’t sure what to expect but great fun Sci-fi that didn’t take itself seriously and laughed out loud a few times :)

Good enjoyable fun

Scalzi effortlessly (well, as the epilogue explains, it actually took considerable effort) slips a superb sci-fi standalone underneath an elsewise bleak chapter of contemporary human history.

His well considered levity forms the well received soundtrack as intrigue, disaster, and various forms of aversion unfurl.

Wheaton, of course, is the perfect narrator. His tone, humour, and manifest enthusiasm dovetails with Scalzi’s writing style.

Thanks - profoundly - for the reliable sci-fi thrum that coasts beneath society’s relentless chaos.

Light, as intended. Superb, as expected.

Feels like an extended episode of your favourite sci-fi show it's not going to light world on fire but not everything does but it's entertaining with good likeable characters definitely worth a listen

Enjoyable Sci-fi

I have previously enjoyed the combination of Scalzi & Wheaton, but this was disappointing. The story was fun & interesting, but the over-excited, often shouty narration was a let down. Previous books that I’ve listened to, narrated by Will Wheaton have even great. This performance left me annoyed, to the point where it took me a long time to finish the book, because I couldn’t listen to too much of it, in one go.

Great, fun story. Annoying narration

I really liked the story, it felt like being part of a roleplaying group with Wil as the Gamesmaster! Wil's narration was spot on and his performance really sucked me in.

A great story and fantastic narration
