The causes of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder range from severe neglect to monstrous abuse. Many survivors grew up in houses that were not homes - in families that were as loveless as orphanages and sometimes as dangerous. If you felt unwanted, unliked, rejected, hated, and/or despised for a lengthy portion of your childhood, trauma may be deeply engrained in your mind, soul, and body.
This book is a practical guide to recovering from lingering childhood trauma. It is copiously illustrated with examples of the author's and his clients' journeys of recovering. It is a comprehensive self-help guide for working through the toxic legacy of the past and for achieving a rich and fulfilling life.

Turning shame to anger and fear to tears. The steps for managing flashbacks is especially good. The terminology and explanations come from a place of neutrality in the language used to explain these and repetition of key points and downloadable pdfs helps with self help.
The book doesn’t downplay the difficulties in overcoming this illness and contradicts the advice (In a good way) that other people might give as advice in every day life such as “You have to forgive people in your past to be happy”. “Sometimes people just have a funny way of showing they love you”. Properly directing the blame and venting the anger was something I hadn’t done before reading this book and it’s helped me start the process of grieving.
Thank you Pete for writing this book and Paul for reading it.
