About this listen

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Naturally Tan written and read by Tan France.

In this heartfelt, funny, touching memoir, Tan France, star of Netflix’s Emmy award-winning Queer Eye, tells his origin story for the first time. With his trademark wit, humour and radical compassion, Tan reveals what it was like to grow up gay in a traditional South Asian family, as one of the few people of colour in South Yorkshire. He illuminates his winding journey of coming of age, finding his voice (and style!) and happily marrying the love of his life - a Mormon cowboy from Salt Lake City.

Humorous and poignant personal essays are peppered with style advice, funny lists and the truisms that Tan has accumulated in his journey from South Yorkshire to Netflix.

In Tan's own words, 'The book is meant to spread joy, personal acceptance and most of all understanding. Each of us is living our own private journey, and the more we know about each other, the healthier and happier the world will be.'

Really conversational read - felt like a podcast (and not in a bad way!). so easy and fun to listen to. The only issue I had with it was the negativity. Tan can be a little bitchy and self righteous and it kinda bums you out a bit. I guess it's a raw account of his life though so I'm glad he spoke his truth!

Good account of the British Asian experience

I thought the book would focus more on Tans upbringing and his struggles instead it's like an overview of his life up until this point. listening to the audiobook just emphasises how lovely Tan is.

Beautiful, just like Tan.
A lovely, honest biography, well read and well written.
Tan is a pioneer in as far as he is an immigrant, has Pakistani roots, is gay and is in a mainstream TV show. This is such a strong message for everyone who is even just one of these things not to mention all of them.
His is not an easy life but he definitely worked hard on is dreams and deserves all the best. I was especially moved by his admission to the darkest times, which is very hard to talk about.
I am so glad Netflix found him because he is a stunning human and bright beacon of clever sass, beauty and the most delightful laugh.
