About this listen

Trevor Peacock (The Vicar of Dibley) stars as inspired chef Warwick Hedges, in this comedy drama set in an idiosyncratic restaurant in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Warwick’s son Jack works alongside his father, which makes him permanently anxious. They are assisted by Samuel, an earthy odd-job man "who crawled out of the slime with the eels", and Zofia the Polish waitress.

Whether hosting unusual guests, dealing with flooding, fuelling father-son rivalry, or moving strange stones from the edge of the Fen to his restaurant 'at his own peril', Warwick certainly keeps Mardle Fen on its toes.

The mixture of food, family relationships and Fenland legend is handled with Nick Warburton's characteristic deft comic touch.

Great characters & scriptwriting from Nick Warburton. I listened to On Mardle Fen when radio 4 first broadcast them and they're even better the second time around. Wonderful cast witty and moving storylines, I defy people not to laugh out loud. I binged the whole series with my partner during the first lockdown last spring, Comes highly recommended by us both. Not conkers.

A fabulous (in all senses) series of plays, beautifully written and acted, eccentric, humorous, mysterious & charming.

I first caught an episode of OMF whilst in my car several years ago and have been keeping an eye out for it ever since. I was delighted to find it available here and have not been disappointed. Helen Longworth is brilliant as the dippy Zophia - she’s just hilarious and, without doubt, my favourite character. Trevor Peacock too, demonstrates his wide acting range as the bumptious Warwick Hedges. Just lovely - I know I will revisit the fen again and again.

Spellbinding
