Random House presents the audiobook edition of Open Your Eyes by Paula Daly, read by Julie Maisey.

Haven’t we all wanted to pretend everything is fine?

Jane doesn’t like confrontation. Given the choice, she’ll let her husband, Leon, fight their battles. She’d prefer to focus on what’s going well, the good things in life.

But when bestselling crime author Leon is brutally attacked in the driveway of their home, in front of their two young children, Jane has to face reality. With her husband in a coma, Jane must open her eyes to the problems in her life, and the secrets that have been kept from her, if she’s to find out who hurt her husband – and why.

Maybe it’s time to face up to it all. Who knows what you might find . . .

Critic reviews

Dark and delicious . . . Daly does it again!
Effortless writing, brilliant storytelling, characters that you really root for (even the villains!) So cleverly done. Her books just get better and better.
Brilliant characters, fast paced and gripping.
An electrifying plot that keeps you guessing to the last.
Yet another gripping, heartbreaking read from a brilliant writer.
I always know I'm in safe hands when I open a Paula Daly novel. She's a hugely talented writer - one of the very best domestic noir authors in the UK - and her ability to craft a twisty, compelling plot is masterful. Open Your Eyes was thrilling, compelling, clever and hugely entertaining. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.

I like Paula Daly a lot - a What Kind of Mother Are You? was brilliant, and I was looking forward to this. There was lots to enjoy and it delivered on interesting characters and plot twist, but I wasn’t quite as engaged as before; sometimes there’s just a bit too much domestic detail and the pace of the story gets derailed.

The narrator was superb - like, unbelievably good, bringing a depth to the central character that the author must be thrilled with. She kept me listening when I might otherwise have abandoned the book, and I did enjoy getting to the resolution, which was satisfying. I will try another Daly, as I like lots of the components of her writing, I just didn’t find they added up to as much on this one.

Brilliant narration kept me going

Touch of thriller in domestic setting, loved the main characters, enjoyed the twists and turns. Narrator was good too. . . . I will definitely read more from this author. Highly recommended.

The story finally goes up a notch around chapter 36. I only persevered because I needed to know the outcome. The plot had so many holes, it laboured on details which weren't essential to the flow, and was downright depressing. Her portrayal of family life was recognisable and the brain injury well portrayed. Imo the author is strong on character development but her plot credibility is weak. The narrator came off a tad nasally. Contrary to other reviews, I thought the ending was fitting.

Nearly gave up on it

Gripping right from the start.
A refreshing change and totally unexpected. The main character was really relatable, a solid story from start to finish with excellent narration. Have already downloaded my next from this author.
