Allmost too intricate. The byzantine life of Nicolas de st Paul continues taking in Europe, North Africa and the Middle Sea Islands. The narration is superb.

Terrific continuation of this complex and gripping story of the 15th century. There is no one like this author.

I am a big Dorothy Dunnett fan. Thais reading is well paced and adds to the understanding of the complex plots and characters. Will listen again when I have reached the end of the series.

I never tire of the Nicolo series. They are exciting, with vivid characters and a cinematographic quality. She writes for all the senses. The reading is magnificent - so many voices, each distinct; and the perfect match of under-emphasis with correct breathing.

Although it's the fifth book in the series, this was actually my first encounter with Dorothy Dunnett's writing and the House of Niccolò series. It will always be a favourite, not just because of the key locations in Scotland and Venice, but because of the rich characters and the quickening pace of the plot.
