Don't be put off by the fact that the audio sounds as though it was recorded in a single take. Don't be put off by the accents either. This is a really enjoyable book and, to be honest, you'll end up appreciating the accents, and that the author is narrating his own story.

A great audiobook

Rarely an audiobook is narrated as well as it’s written (or vice-versa) but this one really is, and what’s more it’s narrated by the author. Brilliantly done, this is an honest and entertaining autobiographical work which should be of interest to anyone who walks or climbs in the outdoors.

Great, one of the best

I’d heard good things about this book and I was looking forward to listening. However, the sound quality is terrible! Also it’s really badly read, full of little mistakes. You’d think reading your own words would be easier than reading someone else’s. However the author really should of paid to get a professional to read this. Such a shame as the story is good, it’s just painful to listen to. Do yourself a favour and buy the physical book rather than the audio version!

Worst Reading I’ve Heard On Here

John, offers a down to earth, honest and humerous look back at how it all began that you will probably relate to in more ways than one. He takes you on a journey from naive teenager right through to his later years exploring, discovering and looking for answers as to why some of us choose to venture into wilder, remote places where there are few others about. The writing style is easy to listen to and cunjures up images as the story progresses from what maybe considered a low-tech age of clothing and equipment right through to the modern day. As time moves on John restles with the reality that one day he will have to come to terms with not being able to continue as before and that hillwalking maybe dying out...

A real account of a journey from novice onwards...
