About this listen

The year is 1866 and the Pacific Ocean is being terrorized by a deadly sea monster. The US government dispatches marine life expert Professor Aronnax on an extended voyage to investigate this new threat. He discovers not a monster, but a marvelous submarine vessel piloted by a deadly captain with a secret agenda.

Heralded as the father of modern science fiction, Jules Verne demonstrates his powers of predictive intuition in this classic underwater adventure.

I love the Slow Horses series and much of the credit goes to Sean Barrat. He really brings all the. Characters to life. His rendition of Jackson Lamb is brilliant and allows me to easily move to the slow horses TV series with Gary Oldman similarly bringing Lamb to life. Like some other reviewers Barrat is so good that I often use his narration to search for new books. However! I nearly gave up on this book as the audio quality in part one was so bad. Not sure what the problem was. Perhaps a production issue or Sean Barrat being unwell but I was at the point of returning the book. Fortunately on the advice of some reviewers I persevered and part two was a welcome contrast with Slow Horses quality returning to a great listen. All the same I hope audible are reading these reviews as this recording needs some corrective attention.

Poor sound in first chapter but improves in Ch2,
