The Wicked Wit of Queen Elizabeth II is a celebration of the Queen's reign through some of her wittiest, most sarcastic and humorous observations, revealing a fascinating side of her personality that often remains hidden from the public. When thinking of the Queen, our perception is often one of dignity and authority. She is seen as a serious figure: the British monarch, the Supreme Governor of the Church of England and the head of the Commonwealth. But as anyone who has ever met her will tell you, in person she has wicked sense of humour. Occasionally unintentional, like asking guitar legend Eric Clapton, 'Have you been playing a long time?,' sometimes sarcastic, and at other times downright silly, royal humour touches on every aspect of life, while always retaining a strong sense of dignity.©2017 Michael O'Mara Books Ltd (P)2018 W. We usually see the official side of the Queen and the Royal Family. It was nice to get to see behind the scenes view and although the book is recorded in 2015 I still think it is worth a listen.

A Lighter Side of the Royals

I'm not a big fan of the royal family as such but when I found this title, the thought of hearing some of the more light hearted comments made by the Queen 'tickled me'. I like the thought that she wasn't all pomp and circumstance, if thats the right phrase? the thought of her making some amusing quick quips sounded good, so I thought I'd give this a listen.

It does contain some interesting information and there are some funny moments disclosed but its not so much a list of witty remarks made on the fly or anything, its a little more plain than that and contains more talk about her life and lifestyle, her interests etc. with the ocassional noteable comment added for 'good effect' seemingly. Its reasonably interesting but it certainly didn't make me laugh out loud, in fact the mention of quips made by other members of the Royal Family I sometimes found more amusing than ones she made. Perhaps that's more a personal preference? I wouldn't have wanted to spend a credit on this but it wasn't an utterly pointless listen either, so all in all I'm going for a middle of the road, 3 star rating for this. I hope my review is helpful.
