In the tradition of Jane Austen and Charlotte Brontë, debut author Julie Klassen delivers a compelling Regency Era novel brimming with authentic period details, vibrant characters, and enthralling plot twists. Banished from hearth and home, a vicar's 20-year-old daughter pays dearly for a single lapse in judgment. To avoid the scorn of local villagers, Charlotte Lamb wends her way to the forbidding Milkweed Manor on the outskirts of London. Concealing her identity, she finds refuge within the dank confines of this mysterious bastion of old secrets and new life. She soon encounters a former suitor, harboring secrets of his own. Firmly relying on God's strength, both resolve to protect their loved ones. But neither realizes the level of self-sacrifice this will require.©2007 Julie Klassen (P)2008 Recorded Books,LLC Christian Fiction Fiction Genre Fiction Romance

I admire the strength it took to endure, with grace, the rejection from family. From society. The sacrifice of being a mother, over and over again. the way, in the book, God worked things out when life seemed hopeless. It made me think about, again, the consequenses of our choices. the decisions we make and their lasting effects on us, tjose around us, our minds, our hearts, our souls.
thank you for this historical work. it was well written, well read and I thoroughly enjoyed it while learning from it as well.

This story was so interesting, with so many quotes referring to the rearing of infants. I learnt so much about the use of the Wet Nurse and what this poor women had to endure to ensure the survival of their own child and themselves. The romance running through this story was so soft and kind and showed what a lady of those days had to suffer if they fell from grace. This strong women of the past pathed the way for the women of today and the future.

Great historical novel

I really enjoyed this book, it was so well written with all the influences of Jane Austen and the Brontë sisters, and I can’t wait to start her next one.
