About this listen

THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER WITH A NEW CHAPTER

Winner of Autobiography of the Year at the National Book Awards 2018
Shortlisted for the Waterstones Book of the Year 2018

Now containing a new chapter on Everything I Know At Thirty.

When it comes to the trials and triumphs of becoming a grown up, journalist and former Sunday Times dating columnist Dolly Alderton has seen and tried it all. In her memoir, she vividly recounts falling in love, wrestling with self-sabotage, finding a job, throwing a socially disastrous Rod-Stewart themed house party, getting drunk, getting dumped, realising that Ivan from the corner shop is the only man you've ever been able to rely on, and finding that that your mates are always there at the end of every messy night out. It's a book about bad dates, good friends and - above all else - about recognising that you and you alone are enough.

Glittering, with wit and insight, heart and humour, Dolly Alderton's powerful début weaves together personal stories, satirical observations, a series of lists, recipes, and other vignettes that will strike a chord of recognition with women of every age - while making you laugh until you fall over. Everything I know About Love is about the struggles of early adulthood in all its grubby, hopeful uncertainty.

Critic reviews

Poignant, witty, comic, and self-deprecating. A laugh-out-loud, lightning quick journey through the years that will resonate with anyone who's ever been young and in love.
Very, very, very funny. Don't hate me when I tell you that Everything I Know About Love is Sex And The City for millennials, because I mean it as high praise
I loved it so much, I wanted it to go on forever, Dolly Alderton is so gifted at making people care. A rare talent
I thought I knew a lot about love. Not as much as Dolly. Read as soon as possible.
Honest, funny and touching
With courageous honesty, Alderton documents the highs and the lows - the sex, the drugs, the nightmare landlords, the heartaches and the humiliations. Deeply funny, sometimes shocking, and admirably open-hearted and optimistic

It was sweet and relatable at some points and Dolly read the book beautifully - I like her voice. Might recommend to another teen/early twenties girl (but probably no one else) Bit of a guilty pleasure, but found myself thinking about it long after finishing it.

Sweet and Charming

I deeply enjoyed this book. The narration was amazing and the storytelling honest, elegant and most and foremost, very entertaining. The book feels like a wide open window into the day-to-day feelings and thoughts of the author and although many of the anecdotes seem banal, they become a fascinating excursion into the psyche of a metropolitan millennial.

Heartwarming Book

As a London female in her mid-twenties, this book was an utterly perfect read. Could relate to so much - thanks Dolly!

Like you should probably read Catcher in the Rye as an angsty teen, I feel I’ve listen to this book at the right time in my life ( I’m 26). I’ve recommended it to all my friends. I’ve really enjoyed listening to the author read it and may even buy a hard copy to refer back to the recipes.

Loved it!

I wasn't familiar with Dolly Alderton before I started listening to Everything I Know About Love but that didn't stop me from instantly being drawn in to her raw and relatable memoir. This is such an endearingly honest, funny and at times deeply moving account of growing up in suburbia in the nineties and navigating the highs and lows of noughties relationships. Dolly's narration is both extremely relaxed and eloquent, especially in her discussion of the enduring love stories that are her female friendships that quickly got me thinking of my own Farly, AJ and India.

I'm so glad that I decided to give this a listen
