Summary

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli, read by Michael Crouch.

Straight people should have to come out too. And the more awkward it is, the better.

Simon Spier is 16 and trying to work out who he is - and what he's looking for. But when one of his emails to the very distracting Blue falls into the wrong hands, things get all kinds of complicated. Because for Simon, falling for Blue is a big deal.... It's a holy freaking huge awesome deal.

A new take on a coming out story; young love.

The narrator made me believe he was the character and he conveyed the emotions of a sweet story very nicely.

Oh. My. Freaking. Gosh.

So I watched the film when it came out in cinemas. I was like “this is the best film I’ve ever watched!” I must’ve watched it at least 20 times. And then I was talking to my English teacher about it, and she said the book is really good. I had a credit so I thought I’d listen to it instead. And let me tell you, I don’t think a book has ever made me cry, laugh, grin, blush, swoon and relate so much in my entire life! This is way better than the film, and I 100% recommend for a good love story when you’re feeling down.

•the narrator’s voice is kind of annoying at first but you get used to it and it becomes super relaxing!

Millennial storytelling at its best

This character filled reading transports you to Simon’s soul, not just a retelling of thoughts, hopes and fears but a gentle window on to this teenagers soul. His angst and adolescent tantrums mixed with his warmth, adventure and eventual journey of self discovery is meaningful and believable. The only challenge is that you really don’t want the story to end.

Best book I’ve read all year

And I’ve read a lot of books. Heartwarming and sweet, and so important. I watched the film before I read this, and the story is slightly different but I love both equally. The performance is great, there’s nothing I don’t love.

Perfect combination of story and reader

If you could sum up Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda in three words, what would they be?

Charming, uplifting, human

What did you like best about this story?

You are rooting for Simon all the way, both in terms of wanting him to get where he needs to eb and in finding out who Blue is. All the chaarcters are rounded and real and in no tiem you know and ccare about all of them

What does Michael Crouch bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

He's the perfect narrator. He just IS Simon

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wanted to be greedy and read the whole thing but I also never wanted it to end, so I forced myself to ration it

Any additional comments?

It's a rarity that story and reader are so perfect for each other. I don't even want to see the film now as it won't be as a good a performance as this
