About this listen

In the hellish sprawl of Imperial Terra, Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor Erasmus Crowl serves as a stalwart and vigilant protector, for even the Throneworld is not immune to the predations of its enemies. In the course of his Emperor-sworn duty, Crowl becomes embroiled in a dark conspiracy, one that leads all the way to the halls of the Imperial Palace.

As he plunges deeper into the shadowy underbelly of the many palace districts, his investigation attracts the attention of hidden forces, and soon he and his acolyte Spinoza are being hunted - by heretics, xenos, servants of the Dark Powers, or perhaps even rival elements of the Inquisition itself. Soon they discover a terrible truth, one that if allowed to get out could undermine the very fabric of the Imperium itself.

Great atmosphere, good characters, interesting story.
Yet I newer got hooked by the horror part.
Was a little confused in the end and think I missed some important details.
Would have loved to like it more.
Still interesting.

Fizzled out in the end

the story is fine. the narrator is good. it didn't grip me. not fussed by the goodies or the baddies. it makes weird decisions about the lore of Terra

Epic storyline, brilliant narrator, 10 out of 10. Can't wait to listen to the rest of the books.

I would recommend this book to any who are fans of CW writing style and want a good detective style fantasy set in the 40k universe.

Chris Wraight is a brilliant writer.

It's an enjoyable book. Interesting to hear about life (and death) on the throne world. Inquisatorial intreague and detective work is always fun.

All around a solid and enjoyable book.
