The first official Minecraft novel! In the tradition of iconic adventures like Robinson Crusoe and Treasure Island, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of World War Z tells the story of a hero—stranded in the world of Minecraft—who must unravel the secrets of a mysterious island in order to survive.
Washed up on a beach, the lone castaway looks around the shore. Where am I? Who am I? And why is everything made of blocks? But there isn’t much time to soak up the sun. It’s getting dark, and there’s a strange new world to explore!
The top priority is finding food. The next is not becoming food. Because there are others out there on the island . . . like the horde of zombies that appear after night falls. Crafting a way out of this mess is a challenge like no other. Who could build a home while running from exploding creepers, armed skeletons, and an unstoppable tide of hot lava? Especially with no help except for a few makeshift tools and sage advice from an unlikely friend: a cow.
In this world, the rules don’t always make sense, but courage and creativity go a long way. There are forests to explore, hidden underground tunnels to loot, and undead mobs to defeat. Only then will the secrets of the island be revealed.

I heard about the book on a YouTube channel and thought as I'm a fan if the game that I'd give a novel a go. Admittedly I don't read often enough (normally wiki articles, websites and general daily reading) so I decided to get the audiobook instead of the paper version. Laziness is bliss :-P
Jack Black was an instant selling point with picking the book too. As a huge fan of his work I reveled at the idea of hearing him in action again and, as expected, he bought life and character to the novel.
The story threw you straight into the world of Minecraft as you'd expect but carried with it a tangible link to the real world we live in. The protagonist has such a deep connection with the reader its uncanny, you feel like you are actually there rather than just following in the footsteps of the story.
Part of me only expected graphic violence towards all things cuboid and a comedic value. I mean come on, it's a story about a game which is about breaking blocks and surviving mobs... It covered so much more though! Fear, drive, compassion, friendship, remorse, revenge, isolation and our deep rooted need as a species to find out 'why?'. It had wealth of laughs and plenty of much welcome, unbiased, life lessons/views. It put our existence in reality side by side with the fantasy realm of minecraft.
Without spoiling it, it's an amazing book!
MINECRAFT AT IT'S BEST!
