Summary

From the author of My Husband's Wife, Penguin presents the unabridged downloadable audiobook edition of Blood Sisters by Jane Corry, read by Zoe Thorne and Emilia Fox.

Three little girls set off to school one sunny May morning. Within an hour one of them is dead.

Fifteen years later Alison and Kitty are living separate lives. Kitty lives in a care home. She can't speak, and she has no memory of the accident that put her there or her life before it. Art teacher Alison looks fine on the surface. But the surface is a lie. When a job in a prison comes up, she decides to take it - this is her chance to finally make things right.

But someone is watching Kitty and Alison. Someone who wants revenge for what happened that day. And only another life will do....

Okay

A good story but very very far fetched and too much going on to make it believable. Towards the end I just wanted it to finish.

Disappointing

I really enjoyed the last Jane Corry book on Audible and was really looking forward to this one. I was disappointed. The twists were predictable (I had them worked out from nearly the start) and a lot of the other story was implausible. I wont say too much as I don't want to put in any spoilers. I stuck it out to the end in the hope a great twist would turn it around but unfortunately it didn't work for me.

Lots of promise, but ultimately implausible

Emilia Fox as a narrator is, as you’d expect, excellent (Which is why I’ve rated the narration as 4*). Sadly the same cannot be said for her counterpart who portrays the inner monologue of Kitty. Irritating baby voice (entirely unnecessary and, actually, quite patronising. As the story regularly points out; kitty isn’t a child) and regular misreading (at one point describing how Margaret is “painting, like when she is finding it hard to breathe.” Errrr, “panting” perhaps?!) not to mention getting the balance of too many sentences wrong (wrong inflection and intonation; emphasising the wrong part with alarming regularity).

This would have been irritating but not a deal breaker. Indeed, initially I was enjoying the unfolding story and thought it had a lot of promise. By mid way, however, as the various mysteries started to come together, it became clear that they were going to be resolved through a series of utterly implausible coincidences. Some of these coincidences were related to each other; some were entirely independent of each other (making it all the more unlikely).

The last 1/5 of the book or so is just overkill. At this point Colombo is referenced and that is how it starts to feel; “..just one more thing...” by the time the main character announces hat she has “one last secret” I heard myself audibly groan!

Can’t really recommend this one

Avoid at all costs!

Quite how this has got any decent reviews is beyond me..it's the worst book I've listened to in 2017! I got to 3hrs remaining then fast forwarded the remainder just to see what happened.

Why was it awful? The characters had no substance & there was no likeable character. There were multiple ridiculous & unbelievable sub plots, it jumped around all over the place. The narrator was annoying, she made Alison sound like a psychopath throughout & her voice for the male characters, along with any accents, were cringeworthy to say the least.

Basically don't bother, I'll never get these hours back & wish I hadn't persevered so much. Just awful!

damn good read. would highly recommend.

I loved this book. it had me guessing a lot through it which I loved. it was easy to listen too. although the jumping from one time in there life to another sometimes was a little hard to keep up with. characters are very believable, and you felt for them

Not for me!

After having read The girlfriend I was excited to read another one by Jane Cory but the story doesn't go anywhere. Very disappointed - returned the book in the end as I was just not for me.

Rather exciting

I was gripped and the story does not just finish but goes on a little longer thsn expected. Harsh reality and secrets create a devious interplay. Pity some aspects were just a little too far fetched.
