When Flavia de Luce is banished to Miss Bodycote's Female Academy in Canada she’s soon on familiar ground, when, on her first night, a mummified body is dislodged from a chimney, and she is presented with a gruesome puzzle to solve. Girls have been disappearing with alarming regularity, leading Flavia to wonder not only how and why, but what exactly is the academy's true purpose? Flavia must enter a shadowy world where truth and lies seem interchangeable and no one can be trusted.©2015 Alan Bradley (P)2017 W.F. Flavia De Luce remains insufferable and adorable by turns. The wider world of the story requires a willing suspension of belief. The flashes of genuine insight and the laugh out loud one liners are worth it. Sophie Aldred brings Flavia to life - I'm not Canadian so I can't comment how well she handles those accents. The pacing is uneven in this tale, so sit back and stick with it. I look forward to Flavia's next adventure.

Lighthearted, a little gruesome & perceptive
