Summary

When last the vampire Lestat was seen, he was rising from the dead in present-day New Orleans to walk again among Anne Rice's unforgettable undead. Now Lestat lives again but in a twilight world of music and memory.

His charismatic friend Louis de Pointe du Lac is tortured by the memory of the child vampire, Claudia, whom he loved and lost. He calls on Merrick, a young and gorgeous mixed-race by-blow of the rich New Orleans Mayfair clan. To save Louis' sanity, Merrick must use her black witchcraft to call up the ghost of Claudia - however dangerous this may be. There are other Mayfair spirits who will not lie still, and her search takes her close to the edge, through blood and terror, ritual and violence.

Sweeping from New Orleans to the Brazilian jungle and the island of Haiti, this is vampire literature at its most tantalising, sexy and irresistible.

I recommend them to everyone as a must read in the top 100 books everyone should read

Good!

Well this one was better than the last one! I liked Merrick, she was an interesting character. Of course I liked David too, and Louis, I've been waiting to hear more about Louis since the first book, Interview with the Vampire. The narrator, Graeme Malcolm, was much better in this one than the last one, so that helped as well.

disappointed.

hmm.. where do I start. it is good but I found it hard to follow as narrator keeps mostly a monotone voice as per story coming from David Talbot. I was disappointed to find there weren't more distinct accents for other characters. Rice does that over descriptive thing she does bit it takes you to their worlds, their views satisfactorily.

Anne Rice is Back on Full Form With “Merrick”

Having been disappointed with the last two books in the Vampire Chronicles I wasn’t holding out much hope for this one.

However, Anne Rice is back on full form with “Merrick”. The mix of vampires, witchcraft and the occult makes for a great story. It’s also nice to move the focus from Lestat.

Graeme Malcolm’s narrative as David Talbot is perfect as the well to do English vampire.

I’m hoping Anne will have more books where David Talbot takes centre stage and Graeme Malcolm can narrate again.
