About this listen

Nina does not have a drinking problem. She likes a drink, sure. But what 17-year-old doesn't?

Nina's mum isn't so sure. But she's busy with her new husband and five-year-old Katie. Nina's almost an adult, after all. And if Nina sometimes wakes up with little memory of what happened the night before, then her friends are all too happy to fill in the blanks.

Nina's drunken exploits are the stuff of college legend. But then one dark Sunday morning, even her friends can't help piece together Saturday night. All Nina feels is a deep sense of shame, that something very bad has happened to her....

A dark, funny, sometimes shocking coming-of-age novel from one of the UK's leading comedians. Nina Is Not OK will appeal to fans of Caitlin Moran and Lena Dunham.

A story of pain of loss. Of hitting the bottom and climbing up. Of realising that to call someone boring is to in the end a compliment.

Just loved it.

Nina is so self-destructive it makes it very difficult to carry on reading, but the characters in the book are so engaging, you plough through to see what happens next. The story has very bad moments, but also some really heart-warming elements.

I would recommend sticking with it, as now I am sad I have finished it.

Shappi Khorsandi's narration was excellent and I did not hear any lip-smacking or heavy breathing (as mentioned in another review). I obviously have cheap speakers ;-)

Difficult reading, but great story.

Often funny, as you’d expect, but this is an important book.
This book tackles some important issues - addiction, rape, bullying, the corrosive influence of social media - and yet it both entertains and educates.
I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Really, really excellent

I wasn’t sure about this at first, I thought it might be a bit too ‘teen’ (I’m 52) but then I loved it. And felt shame, concern, exasperation, and compassion for Nina. It made my eyes leak a bit too. Brilliant.

Uncomfortable but brilliant
