About this listen
Meet Quentin Coldwater, king of the bizarre and wonderful land of Fillory. But he is getting restless, even in heaven a man needs a little adventure. So when a steward is murdered on a morning's hunt Quentin gets exactly that. But this quest is like no other. What starts as a glorified cruise to faraway lands soon becomes the stuff of nightmares....
The Magician King is a grand voyage into the dark, glittering heart of magic, an extraordinary journey that allows the imagination to run riot and proves Grossman is the modern heir to C.S. Lewis.
This is a book like no other.

Any additional comments?
Enjoyable 2nd dose of this "what if Narnia (Fillory in this book) were real".The magic system is a little self-contradictory for my tastes. Lots of talking about how difficult it all is when they are learning, but it all seems to be very easy and convenient when they need it.
A few of the characters do pretty stupid things occasionally - but on the upside, there were some good plot-twists.
Narration was mostly excellent, but Poppy's Australian accent really was as bad as everyone else makes out. I suspect Mark Bramhall can never have met or heard an actual Australian person.
Imagine Dick van Dyke's cockney chimney sweep Bert trying to impersonate a South African accent and you'll be about there...
Good book, mostly well read, but strewth...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. Its so nice to have a bit of a twisted adult version of a fairy tale. It's got a sense of humour as well. The characters don't seem to take themselves as seriously as in most fantasy books.Who was your favorite character and why?
So far, Julia. She's never what you expect. What do you think the narrator could have done better?
This is the reason I gave 4 stars, Poppy, who is meant to be Australian has the WORST Australian accent I have ever heard. The narrator is great at everyone else, but wow, every time Poppy speaks it sets my teeth on edge.Very very good
