About this listen

Lockwood & Co. might be the smallest (some might say shambolic) Psychic Detection Agency in London. But its three agents - Lockwood, Lucy and George - are exceptional Talents. And they get results. When an outbreak of ghostly phenomena grows to terrifying levels in Chelsea, Scotland Yard is left baffled.

Even more baffling is that Lockwood & Co appear to have been excluded from the huge team of Agents investigating the Chelsea Outbreak. Surely this is the perfect chance for them to show once and for all that they're actually the best in town? Well, that's if they can put aside their personal differences for long enough to march into action with their rapiers, salt and iron . . .

Ghouls and spectres, thrills and tension in this brand-new instalment in Jonathan Stroud’s bestselling series.

'Stroud is a genius' - Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson series.

There was an adjustment period getting used to Emily Beven’s performance but after I settled into it I really enjoyed this one.

Great characters, spooky ghosts and exciting set pieces. All around a great time.

Just slightly saddened we’ll never get to see this story brought to life on the Netflix TV show.

Great stuff answers some of the lingering questions left over from the TV show.

This is the 3rd in the series and so far this is the one that I couldn't wait for it to be over. For me, the story took forever to get going. But once it did then it was great. I only stuck with it because I loved the other 2 and want to listen to the rest of them. I will carry on but so far, for me this one was boring. I think it's because I don't like books that feature lots of whinging and whinning.
The reader did a good job and the voice change for each character worked really well.

Bit drawn out

I was initially disappointed by the switch in narrator for the series, but once I had gotten about an hour or so in I found myself really enjoying the narration, well done to the narrator for bringing a skeptic round. I've seen that she is also the narrator for the next 2 books and that has made me very happy.

The book itself is a good entry into the series, I feel not quite as strong as the original but better than the sequel. It is now setting the series up to run in interesting ways now though.

Initially skeptical, absolutely brought round

The pacing of the narrative felt off, and the story was at times frustratingly predictable. Still really good though, and having a northern narrator really works well.

Great reading, good book, but not the strongest in the series
