Legends aren't born. They're forged.

Dug Sealskinner is a down-on-his-luck mercenary travelling south to join up with King Zadar's army. But he keeps rescuing the wrong people. First, Spring, a child he finds scavenging on the battlefield, and then Lowa, one of Zadar's most fearsome warriors, who's vowed revenge on the king for her sister's execution.

Now Dug's on the wrong side of that thousands-strong army he hoped to join - and worse, Zadar has bloodthirsty druid magic on his side. All Dug has is his war hammer, one rescued child, and one unpredictable, highly-trained warrior with a lust for revenge that's going to get them all killed.... It's a glorious day to die.

Dug is instantly likeable - an interesting insight into a period that not alot is known about. Lowa and, especially Spring are fascinating characters. A great story, brilliantly narrated. Now anxious to listen to the second in the trilogy. I highly recommend this audiobooks.

A ripping yarn!

Full of history that doesn't over power the story. Definitely worth listening to if you like battles.

Well rounded characters that you can root for.

Kings, druids and soldiers fight (mostly literally) for position and pleasure before the arrival of the Romans. Sean Barrett is a wonderful narrator and, through the story and his telling of it, you feel for the main characters and their plight.

Dirty, smelly and gruesome entertainment

I just finished the third book today and I must say that this has been one of my favourite series to date. It jumps back and forth between history and fantasy quite frequently (veering more toward the fantasy side as the trilogy goes on) so it’s maybe not a book for historical puritans. However, If you like a gripping story with well fleshed out characters and a few shocks along the way then this is one to listen to. The performance by Sean Barrett is excellent. I have listened to a few other books read by him and he never fails to bring the text to life.
Definitely recommend this series and hope you enjoy as much as I have!

Such a fantastic trilogy!

Gripping action story. Although not historically accurate, a real good feel for the times comes out. Done the whole book in one week.

Great listen
