About this listen

On the night Malcolm and Maud Angel are murdered, their daughter, Tandy, knows just three things:

  • 1. She was one of the last people to see her parents alive.
  • 2. She and her brothers are the only suspects.
  • 3. She can’t trust anyone - maybe not even herself.

Having grown up under their parents’ intense perfectionist demands, none of the Angel children have come away undamaged.

Tandy decides that she will have to solve the crime on her own, but digging deeper into her powerful parents’ affairs is a dangerous game. As she uncovers haunting secrets and slowly begins to remember flashes of disturbing past events buried in her memory, Tandy is forced to ask: What is the Angel family truly capable of? Returning to the genre that made him the world’s bestselling author, James Patterson introduces a teen detective on a mission to bring her parents’ killer to justice, even if it means uncovering her family’s darkest secrets - and confessing some of her own.

My 10 year old daughter loves to read, but was getting a little fed up with the standard school syllabus books so we were looking for something new. In her words: Had me hooked from the start. I've only read the Max Einstein books by James Patterson before, which were very good. But this book was a bit more grown up and the detailed descriptions, and exciting storyline was so different to other books I've read before.

Next phase for my ten year old

Be prepared. This is not quite a thriller. It is rather a family story - the strange Angel family story- told after the mysterious death of the parents by one of their daughters, a wannabe detective. Avery good performance. It felt as if the story was told by a real teenager. Good laughs assured - the family is not far from the Adams family...A trifle too moralistic at the end.

A little naive but charming

Too outrageous to be believable. You cannot relate to the protagonist. Other characters are equally unappealing. Lots of loose ends, which might be intended as sequel, ... but simply doesn't work for me.
