It is a time of unrest in the BookWorld. Only the diplomatic skills of ace literary detective Thursday Next can avert a devastating genre war. But a week before the peace talks, Thursday vanishes. Has she simply returned home to the RealWorld or is this something more sinister?

All is not yet lost. Living at the quiet end of speculative fiction is the written Thursday Next, eager to prove herself worthy of her illustrious namesake.

The fictional Thursday is soon hot on the trail of her factual alter-ego, and quickly stumbles upon a plot so fiendish that it threatens the very BookWorld itself.

Critic reviews

'Fforde's books are more than just an ingenious idea. They are written with buoyant zest and are tautly plotted. They have empathetic heroes and heroines who nearly make terrible mistakes and suitably dastardly villains who do. They also have more twists and turns than Christie, and are embellished with the rich details of Dickens or Pratchett'
A riot of puns, in-jokes and literary allusions that Fforde carries off with aplomb
'Fforde is a master entertainer, and a wordsmith of dexterous genius.'
'Fans of the late Douglas Adams, or, even, Monty Python, will feel at home with Fforde'
'Forget all the rules of time, space and reality; just sit back and enjoy the adventure.'

I would like to start with i did enjoy this book. But you need to be able to pay attention to all the information given to you about the written world. I like to listen while doing my cleaning but found this one hard to keep track of the writers descriptions. Not sure if would listen to it again, but would probably find it easier the second time round and more enjoyable.

Worth a listen but not many more

I prefer where there is more real-life world and less book world and this is mostly book world based. There is a fair bit of 'will the real Thursday' stand up and a lot of focus on fictional Thursday and her angst. Still worth listening to.
I loved Sprocket.
Narration was excellent.

Not the best.
