As you may have read tons of time - this is not a book for everyone. Having said that I can say I very much enjoyed it mainly because of the characters and the way how King manages to describe their inner selves with dialog and not with character descriptions like "he had brown hair, bla bla". I don't care how someone looks, I care about how they act in given situations and what they say or think - that in my opinion is what makes a character rememberable and not what kind of a shirt he wore. Anyways, exactly that is what King is doing and that's why I like this book so much. Also, I like the character development (Larry for instance) where he goes from being a really selfish $#"$%"# to a concious man. Anyways, if you like the book where the thing you'll remember later are the characters over the actual plot - you'll like this one!

Not for everyone

This was the first Stephen King book I listened to. I had always thought Stephen Kings books were horror stories, how wrong I was. I usually listen as I work and a book has to be good to hold my

attention. This one certainly did and I found it difficult to stop listening, even when work was finished and I should have gone home. Some people might find it a bit long but I liked all the details and like long books anyway as I have a lot of hours. Would highly recommend this book and will go on to listen to many more books by this author.



book that makes one think how fragile our world is

It's just over a quarter of a century since this book nearly caused a young student to mis-fire in his final examinations at University with its gripping tale of post-Apocalypse survivors. So I went back to it with some trepidation as it had been a genuinely memorable experience from my teenage years.

But it stands the test of time. The additional length compared to most paperbacks allows King to fully develop a rich cast of characters and with Gardner's liquid granite narration this is a genuinely excellent listen.

Apocalypse writing at its best. The conflict between good and evil personified. It begins with a scourge on mankind, with the coming of the flu. The survivors are then called by the forces of good and evil, each according to their true nature. The book focuses on the eternal struggle of good versus bad and builds towards the greatest sacrifice of all to save mankind. Highly recommended.
