RITA finalist Julie Klassen has earned numerous awards for her popular historical romance novels. In The Maid of Fairbourne Hall, pampered Margaret Macy flees her home in London to avoid marrying a dishonorable man. Now, with no money and no place to stay, Margaret does the unthinkable: she takes a job as a housemaid in the home of two brothers - both of whom are former suitors. As an “invisible” observer, Margaret realizes she may have misjudged one brother and wonders if it’s too late to win his admiration.

I liked the narration. I did speed her voice up a little but I do this with most stories. The book is a predictable love story that I enjoyed, as I was looking for a story that was light and a pleasure to listen to

Lovely romantic story

This tale of the spoiled Miss Macey's journey to kind, wise and humble woman is an enjoyable story. There is also a love story part of the plot that gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling. The insights she and so we also, as readers, gain into the powerlessness of women, life of the poor, the hardwork and devotion of servants is so interesting, it's like being able to step back in time. I'll be checking out more from this author.

Thoroughly enjoyable

Julie Klassen always writes such a lovely heartwarming story with great characters and a good plot. I was transported back to the regency period and Margaret Macy and how she manages to escape the clutches of man that was only interested in marrying her for her inheritance. As with all of Julie Klassen's books, beautifully written and beautifully narrated by Elizabeth Jasicki, a lovely bit of escapism and such a lovely story. Thoroughly enjoyed! 🤍 📚
