Glorious short stories from international bestselling author Alexander McCall Smith, in a collection written especially for World Book Day

There are times when ladies must use all their wisdom and good sense to face life's problems and mysteries. Mma Ramotswe, owner of the No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency, keeps her wits about her as she looks into why the country's star goalkeeper isn't saving goals. Georgina turns her rudeness into a virtue when she opens a successful hotel. Italian shop-keeper Fabrizia shows her bravery when her husband betrays her. And in Suffolk during the Second World War, gentle La proves that music really can make a difference.

With his trademark gift for storytelling, Alexander McCall Smith brings us five tales of love, heartbreak, hope and the cleverness of ladies.©2012 Alexander McCall Smith (P)2012 W F Howes Ltd Contemporary Fiction Genre Fiction Fiction Heartfelt Short Story

Have come to expect more from this author. It was an easy to listen to book whilst doing something else but I found it uninspiring.

not exciting

I was suprised and initially disappointed that only the first story was about the no 1 ladies detective agency. However this author writes beautifully and short stories are not easy to write being an art form in their own right. There was a great variety of location, setting and mood and I was soon enthralled. The narrator dealt well with the many different and varied characters, both male and female, which added to the pleasure. Each story gave me a little break from my own life which is one of the lovely things about listening on audible afterall.

A mix of beautiful short stories

Like some of the previous reviewers, I too thought this would be short stories about the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency! In fact it is a mix of interesting and evocative short stories, very well narrated and very enjoyable. Would give five stars but feel the description is misleading.

Not what I thought it would be!

Strange short story mix. Not all related to Mma Ramotswe. Not what I expected from this
