THE MARK OF THE DEVIL, THE SIGN OF A KILLER...

A young woman is murdered in her flat and a tiny red diamond in the shape of a five-pointed star is found behind her eyelid. Detective Harry Hole is assigned to the case, alongside his long-time adversary Tom Waaler and initially wants no part in it.

But Harry is already on his final warning and has little alternative but to drag himself out of his alcoholic stupor when it becomes apparent that Oslo has a serial killer on its hands.

Critic reviews

The next Stieg Larsson
Nesbo sets a cracking pace... A series of spectacular plot twists leads to a thrilling finale. Highly recommended
Compelling... Shocking and surprising...expertly paced
Many authors know how to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Jo Nesbo's one of the few who keeps them there (Lindwood Barclay)
An astonishingly confident debut. The Devil’s Star scores with an intriguing plot and Nesbo’s mastery of pace and tension

great plot & characters, the pace goes fast then slow, gripping in places and complex to follow in others

but all the little clues fit together in the end! Some over description /padding in places.

Really enjoyed this Harry Hole book. Having got to know him and his failings through Sean Barrett's voice I have come to understand his nature and was pleased to see him finally win a long standing victory in this book. I have enjoyed the ongoing understory that came through from earlier stories.
Will continue with the series interspersed with other genres. (Can only do so much crime and murder before I need a little break.)

I love The Harry Hole books and I think this was one of the best I've read so far. Kept me guessing and completely enthralled right to the end.

I know I said that the previous one was the best but this tops it. Not too many confusing names, a clear plot and more twists than a corkscrew.
Totally absorbing and a great listen.

The best yet
