Compelling... Shocking and surprising...expertly paced
Many authors know how to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Jo Nesbo's one of the few who keeps them there (Lindwood Barclay)

Just finished reading this, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is the 4th of Jo NEsbo's Harry Hole novels that I've read so I'm used to his pace and dark style by now, but that didn't stop the book from gripping me. What comes across in this book is the sense of moving towards impending confrontation, Hole and his Nemesis will face off and neither will escape unscathed.

In light of this the actual mystery here, a serial killer who leaves star shaped diamonds on their victims, is almost a subplot, but it all adds up to another thrilling installment in the slightly bizarre life of Harry Hole,

Would highly recommend, though would advise reading the preceeding novels "The Bat", "The Redbreast" and "Nemesis" first.

Dark and brilliant

I almost didn't download this, as I have listened to Harry Hole books before and i end up feeling like topping myself. Maybe this is an earlier one, but it wasn't a bad yarn and he left the booze alone....

Let's hope he cheers up a bit for the next book!

Not so bleak

This was my first Audible book by Jo Nesbo and I was quit happy with it. It has a good plot and was nicely read by Sean Barrett. Harry Hole is a well written character, a flawed, but brilliant detective with an unhealthy relationship to alcohol and tortured by a traumatic memory from his childhood and longing for the love of his live. Can recommend this book.

Amazing book, couldn't stop listening. You think you know what's going on and it's always the complete opposite!
