Summary

Alan Groombridge had a fantasy. Husband to a woman he didn't like, father of two children he had never wanted, and manager of the second smallest branch of the Anglian-Victoria bank in the country, Alan was doomed to a life of domestic boredom and tedious routine.

All that saved him was that one fantasy: stealing enough of the bank's money to allow him just one year of freedom -one year in which to live a different sort of life. But one day there was no more dreaming and no more games. The Anglian-Victoria bank was robbed and both manager and cashier disappeared. ln place of the dull and dreary repetition on that had once existed, there came a brutal, chilling nightmare that might never, never end.

Make Death Love Me

If you could sum up Make Death Love Me in three words, what would they be?

Thrilling, moreish and contemplative.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Alan Groombridge - he was a middle-aged man who felt as though his life had been blighted by a series of choices made in his late teens and yearned for something different. His journey towards making this happen is extremely interesting.

What about Ric Jerrom’s performance did you like?

Ric Jerrom is the most talented actor to voice Rendell books. He has a low, mellow and melodious tone which brings all of the different characters alive.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The end - it was very sad indeed.

gripping as usual

Although a little outdated in technological terms, vintage Rendell never fails to please. Good plot, good characterisations

Just brilliant Rendell & Ric Jerome

The master that was Ruth Rendell nailed another amazing story full of intrigue and psychological insight into seemingly everyday regular people. Amazing narration by Ric Jerome. Some reviewed Jerome's American accent negatively however if they had continued with this skilful tale they would have known the character was faking a US accent very poorly & Jerome portrayed this expertly.

Loved it.

Great story and well read if you can get past the American and Irish accents. Worth a listen

Story good - accents not so much!

Love Ric Jerrom as a narrator normally but the Irish accents here were unusual to sag the least! Small flaw though. Even though I’m
Irish myself.

interesting attempt at accents

if you come from Suffolk you'll wonder what in heck the narrator is doing.

if you have never heard the accent this might not bother you.

RR story good as usual

Another worthwhile listen

I read this book years ago but thoroughly enjoyed Rick Jerome narrating. How clever the plot and the way it ended supremely satisfying. Ruth Rendell never fails to give her utmost and to completely immerse you in everyday life going terribly wrong.
