Author of the National Book Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier. Critic reviews

“The authentic American apocalyptic novel…I venture that no other living American novelist, not even Pynchon, has given us a book as strong and memorable as Blood Meridian.” (Harold Bloom)
"McCarthy is a writer to be read, to be admired, and quite honestly envied." (Ralph Ellison)
"McCarthy is a born narrator, and his writing has, line by line, the stab of actuality. He is here to stay." (Robert Penn Warren)

I loved The Road, but I couldn’t get into this story. It was a real struggle to finish.

This is the greatest post-war American Novel, just edging Underworld, American Pastoral and Mason Dixon. It may only be second in the pantheon of great American Novels to Moby Dick. Huck Finn, As I Lay Dying, The Scarlet Letter, Tom Sawyer, On the Road, all have a say, of course

It's a nightmarish epic of blood and beauty. Of biblical prose and proportion. I have read the novel three times in my life and there are moments I shall never forget that return to me when I least expect it.

This is the first audiobook I have listened to, cover to cover. I have tried several others but I miss the written world, the architecture of the letters, despite also being a musician who appreciates the melody of voices. However, this is a great performance, the accent is authentic and the voices are subtle and evocative.

Don't delay, read this, listen to this, and repeat. if you enjoy it, I'd recommend almost every other book by McCarthy. The second book in the border trilogy, The Crossing, comes close to this parable, so I would highly recommend working through those books next.

The greatest post-war American Novel

Good narration of a book I read twice before, ⚽ knew the text. But the pacing and delivery of this brutal modern classic depecting the human condition and the propensity towards war and violence, has a pleasant rhythm. This essential, as the book has a biblical feel at times, with descriptions of terrifying beauty on a continent seeped on bloodshed

A violent master piece, true side of the Western

Best Mcarthy novel. Best American novelist alive today. The violence might be too much for some, but it's an accurate reflection of the times. Brilliant.
