This sequel to Freckles, the much loved tale set in the Limberlost swamps of Indiana, is a wonderful story I was first introduced to by my grandmother 50 years ago and it is still a compelling and uplifting read.
Elnora is a lonely young girl who longs for an education but her widowed mother is set against it. With the help of kind friends and her own courage and hard work she slowly achieves her dreams. Elnora had inherited Freckles store and books in the forest and with these she studies and collects the amazing moths of the Limberlost and sells them to pay her way. Despite her own heartaches Elnora touches the lives of others with her kindness, honesty and forgiveness.
The descriptions of the moths, plants and the woods are fascinating and beautiful - you can wish yourself there.
Very well narrated.

A beautiful growing up classic
