About this listen

Imagine a world where soldiers regenerate and continue fighting without pause, and where suicide bombers live to strike again. This is the dream of Richard Ridley, founder of Manifold Genetics, and he has discovered the key to eternal life: an ancient artifact buried beneath a Greek inscribed stone in the Peruvian desert.

When Manifold steals the artifact and abducts archaeologist Dr. George Pierce, the United States Special Forces Delta operative, Jack Sigler, callsign King, and his Chess Team: Queen, Knight, Rook, Bishop, and their handler, Deep Blue give chase. They must save Pierce and stop Manifold before they change the face of genetics - and human history - forever.

Critic reviews

"Robinson’s latest reads like a video game with tons of action and lots of carnage....Gruesome and nasty in a good way, this will appeal to readers of Matthew Reilly." ( Booklist)

I came to this series on the back of the Joe ledger novels which I love thinking that these would be similar. And, they are, kind of.

Great premise and storyline, but somehow it didn't seem to have quite the depth of those novels. Cannot pinpoint if it's the character development, story telling or even the reader, I just didn't find it quite as engaging somehow.

I will try one more however, it left me with that much of an impression.

Fun and engaging but something missing

I picked this up while browsing my recommended list. I think this appeared due to the Greig Beck books in my library as they have a similar theme the dangers of of old myths clashing with modern day and the struggle to put them back in the past.

Jeremy uses a team rather than a single man but the concept of elite soldiers versus hellish nightmare is pretty similar.

Won't put any spoilers in here, but the overall idea was worth listening to and I did enjoy the listen. Character development is a little light though and you don't really get any sense of attachment to any of the main characters in the book. Will have a listen to the second book to see if this develops.....

Interesting start...new idea... A little light on development
