About this listen

Pam Ayres' stage show has been a sell-out success throughout the world. With her natural warmth and wit she builds up a rapport with the audience that guarantees an evening of fun and laughter. Pam's reflections on daily life bring a chuckle of recognition from people of all ages. Whether she's reminiscing about the spartan conditions on a caravan holiday in the Fifties, or describing her less-than-spectacular prowess in a Nineties' gym, her wonderfully accurate wit is always a delight. In this live recording of Pam Ayres on stage at the Swan Theatre, Stratford, she includes - along with a few of her classic poems - more recent gems such as Sexy at Sixty, The Wonderbra and With These Hands to provide a richly entertaining example of Pam Ayres at her best.©1999 Pam Ayres; (P)2005 BBC Audiobooks Audio Performances & Dramatisations Dramatisations Entertainment & Performing Arts Performing Arts Funny

I heard an extract of this on Radio 4 over Easter. Hearing Pam Ayres' voice again brought back memories of my youth, when she was regularly on television. Her way with words is utterly enchanting. Listen to this on public transport at your peril as you'll want to laugh out loud - often!

Pure magic

Absolutely hilarious, still a force to be reckoned with all these years later. My only minus point is that it doesn't go on for long enough. But that's my personal point of view. If you don't listen to any other comedy book you'll be glad you didn't miss this one.

Excellent! Reminds me of when I was growing up, listened to it many times but still can't help giggling. Good clean and funny.

I discovered I loved Pam Ayres by accident - she is the funniest woman to put herself out there (and at a time when it wasn't so common for women to do so)! She doesn't need to insult or denegrade and I'd love to have coffee with her, amazing story teller!

Outstanding, as always
