About this listen

From 1938 to 1969 the fictional crime novelist and detective Paul Temple, together with his Fleet Street journalist wife Steve, solved case after case in one of BBC radio’s most popular series. When young drama student Mary Dreisler is found murdered in her flat, her father instantly sends for Paul Temple. There appears to have been no struggle, no robbery - no motive. The only possible clue is a package that arrives for the dead girl. It contains a gramophone record called 'My Heart and Harry' and attached is a note: ‘Adored every minute of it - Spencer’. Who is Spencer? Does the song have anything to do with the murder? If anyone can find the answers, Paul can...© Estate of Francis Durbridge; (P)2000, 2004 BBC Audiobooks Ltd. i have a real enjoyment of the paul temple mysteries - they are very much of their time: they are a frightfully upper middle-class couple - paul is a successful crime writer, while his wife steve (yes that is her name!) used to be an investigative journalist with a male alias, but is now content with helping her husband by using her famed intuition to ascertain who's charming or ghastly! i jest, because these radio shows are terrific fun and very exciting. true, the story lines are slightly repetitive and overly similar - such as a young and naive girl gets bumped off for mixing in the 'wrong crowd' and there is always a charming foreigner who is actually a ruthless criminal genius... but i digress. the temple affairs are marvellous fun, and you can laugh yourself silly at how 'terribly, terribly' posh they are - their servant charlie gets them annoyed when he says 'okey dokey' or 'righty ho!' (yes, they have a servant!) ... because this is set in the late 50's/ early 60's, they all smoke like chimneys and drive sports cars after downing sweet sherries or double whiskies and sodas! please enjoy this and appreciate it for its spirit and the time for which it was written, you won't regret it - 'by timothy!' - another habitual catchphrase! delightful!

Old fashioned charm

Full cast excellence.
I own the full P Temple collection & all are so enjoyable, I love to curl up for several hours & relax as the man & wife team take me on another enthralling 'By Timothy' journey of suspense, cocktails, murder & good old fashioned fun. Not a circuit board or swear word in sight.

Well worth a full credit, these plays last up to 4 hours & more of mystery sophistication, fast cars all wrapped up in the Paul & Stevie classic 50's & 60's style. No advertisements no awful organ music just great entertainment.

Each full cast acted by a team of well known professional actors, making these productions just as good as watching a TV programme. Perfection.

Paul & Stevie Perfection

If you're in the mood for some purely nostalgic escapism, cease your quest: these beautifully detailed Paul Temple mysteries are the ideal tonic!

A Very Fine Affaur

story is ok far fetched of course but bowls along.
The most annoying part is Temple's arrogance Steve will ask him a question sometimes more than once which he ignores then barks out some instruction to her this happens a few times .
He also gives orders to the police which he expects to be carried out. I know these serials were from a different age but what a big head!

Temple is so annoying
