About this listen

Orphan, clock keeper, and thief, Hugo lives in the walls of a busy Paris train station, where his survival depends on secrets and anonymity. But when his world suddenly interlocks with an eccentric, bookish girl and a bitter old man who runs a toy booth in the station, Hugo's undercover life and his most precious secret are put in jeopardy. A cryptic drawing, a treasured notebook, a stolen key, a mechanical man, and a hidden message from Hugo's dead father form the backbone of this intricate, tender, and spellbinding mystery.©2007 Brian Selznick (P)2006 Scholastic Inc. This original storyline awakened our own imagination. It certainly doesn’t follow a usual path.

We would like a sequel.

The audiobook was not helped by the sound effects dropped in at various points.

Captivating in every way!

I listened to this as my kids read the book. We love being able to discuss stories together. We all loved the story but the narration is a bit choppy, especially when it's someone speaking. It would have gotten annoying if the story was any longer.

great children's story!
