About this listen

"Outside! What's it like?"
Masklin looked blank. "Well," he said. "It's sort of big."

To the thousands of tiny nomes who live under the floorboards of a large department store, there is no Outside. Things like Day and Night, Sun and Rain are just daft old legends. Then a devastating piece of news shatters their existence: the Store, their whole world, is to be demolished. And it's up to Masklin, one of the last nomes to come into the Store, to mastermind an unbelievable escape plan that will take all the nomes into the dangers of the great Outside.

The story is brought to life by writer, actor, and documentary-maker Tony Robinson, well-known for the popular TV series Time Team and his roles as the Sheriff of Nottingham in Maid Marion and Her Merry Men and Baldrick in Blackadder.

Critic reviews

"The best thing since Wodehouse." ( The Times)
"One of the novel's greatest strengths is the depiction of the civilization the nomes have built for themselves, including an intricate religion based on advertising signs." ( Publishers Weekly)

I’m biased as I’m a massive Pratchett fan and who doesn’t have a soft spot for Tony Robinson!!!
The Bromeliad Trilogy is a lot of fun however it does have a strong positive message.

This is a very clever book. Children, from about the age of 9 onwards will enjoy it as will their parents. Both groups will find it funny, wise and thought provoking. It is the first part of a trilogy.
