About this listen

In May 2003, the country was gripped by the fate of arctic explorer Pen Hadow, stranded with diminishing supplies on the ice cap after successfully reaching the Pole.

Hadow was the first man to reach the North Pole alone and unsupported via the arduous Canadian route. Despite severe setbacks, he walked, skiied and swam for two months to fulfill a lifetime's dream.

Solo is the gripping, inspirational autobiography of a true British hero.

I like stories about travel, exploration and survival, usually in exotic, harsh environments(anywhere outside of Dublin,Ireland) so I really enjoyed this. It's a story about true British grit and determination and the human desire to follow a life long dream and to excel at something beyond the everyday. Follow Pen across the Arctic ocean for a measured, straight forward, honest, but none the less enthralling account of his solo attempt to reach the North Pole and why he decided to do it in the first place...
