This is the first book to present innovation and entrepreneurship as a purposeful and systematic discipline. It clearly explains and analyzes the challenges and opportunities of America’s new entrepreneurial economy. Peter Drucker, the most influential and widely-read thinker and writer on modern organizations, gives us a superbly practical book that explains what established businesses, public service institutions, and new ventures have to know, have to learn, and have to do in today’s economy and marketplace.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship deals with “what, when and why,” policies and decisions, opportunities and risks, structures and strategies, staffing, and compensation and rewards. In addition to managers in all types of business, lecturers and students of management and business studies will find this a revealing and exciting work. Highly critical in approach, it is nevertheless a practical and illuminating study of an area crucial for today’s world.

Critic reviews

“Drucker now adds Innovation and Entrepreneurship to the remarkable series of books about management that he has been writing since 1939. Any book by Drucker is rewarding, and it is impossible to read the man without learning a lot.”

(Fortune)

“Our most enduring commentator on the practice of management and the economic institutions of society.”

(Businessweek)

“On bookshelves crowded with books on management principles and practice and promising success and profit to their purchasers, this book stands head and shoulders above the rest.”

(Accountant’s Magazine)

“Thoughtful, concise, and useful.”

(Technology Review)

“This work is unique...a thoughtful analysis of what the future holds...a clear statement of principles with many supporting examples. Essential for all business collections.”

When it comes to understanding digitisation and fintech strategy Peter Drucker wrote most of the theories already in the 1980s. This book is up there with the best texts on business theory.

Have read this classic book a couple of times (albeit ten years ago) before purchasing the audio version. As with other comments the narration is awful and makes Stephen Hawking's speech box sound human! Although it is worth persisting, as with a couple of other reviews would suggest you buy the book for this one. Listening to this has prompted me to re-read and has reminded me how good this book is at providing a systematic approach to innovation and entrepreneurship

Seminal work in Innovation but awful narration

Essential reading, no fluff, written before the dotcom age - very refreshing to hear examples of low tech innovation but with very sound principal

Solid innovation management

As you can expect for a book written a long time ago, the examples seem dated but the thought and analysis is great as you'd expect from Drucker, just be aware that the recording is very poor compared to modern standards and is not the easiest listen
