Free-spirited and irrepressible, Anne Shirley has a beautiful way of looking at the world. In this third volume of the Anne of Green Gables series, Anne dreams of the woman she hopes to be when she decides to leave her beloved Prince Edward Island for college. She is eager for new adventure but faces difficult choices involving her secret aspirations to be a writer and her hopes of finding the right person to marry.

Homesickness and a grumpy old math professor cause Anne to doubt she should be a Redmond College coed. And when Anne is the recipient of unexpected marriage proposals from the most unlikely young men, she may shock friends and Islanders alike with her decision. Then, when tragedy strikes, Anne learns a valuable lesson that prepares her to make the most important choice of all.

Critic reviews

“[Mongtomery’s] portrayal of this feminine yet independent spirit has given generations of girls a strong female role model, while offering a taste of another, milder time in history

(Amazon.com, editorial review)

“The girlishness of the younger women is fresh and eager; the gossip of the older women is clipped yet incisive. Personalities emerge—Aunt Jamesina is dear and endearing, the owners of Patty’s Place are eccentric, Gilbert is hurt yet true, and Anne is both distressed and exuberant. This recording is a treat.”

Performance: Not an exceptional narrator, but she didn't grate too much, Wouldn't have bought it this audiobook, but listening as an "included" audiobook, it wasn't bad at all.

Story: Continuation of Anne's life in general, with the same colorful characters and new ones that are just as fun to watch. A nice "feel good" story.

Very listenable

i liked the story, and the reader was better this time around, compared to 'Anne of Avonlea'

annoying echo in the background

I thought I was losing my mind when I was hearing faint chattering in the background, before I confirmed it was coming from the narration. Still, the narrator is good, even if I did have to reimagine Gilbert's and Mrs Lynde's voices. The audio was tinny in places and the sound jumped around in others, so it certainly would benefit from a sound remix. But I got used to it and I still enjoyed it.

Poor audio edit but good narrator

This recording has some feint background noise, which can be a little distracting sometimes. Lovely story, as expected.
